Dry Water Concept

Water or dilute aqueous solutions can be converted to a dry powder with the help of superhydrophobic AEROSIL® R 812. The powdery product can contain up to

95 % w/w of an aqueous phase. Under mechanical stress, for example, when the product is rubbed onto the skin, the water is released. In this way, solutions containing vitamins, plant extracts and/or other active ingredients can be converted to powdered products. “Dry Water” is created by producing fine water droplets in the presence of the hydrophobic AEROSIL® during a high shear mixing process. While mixing the fine water droplets are coated by the hydrophobic silica which prevents the water droplets from coalescing.

AGENAJEL 20.313, a cold water soluble starch-ether based on a waxy maize starch (edible), is a rheology modifier and creaminess enhancer. The white-yellowish power is cold water swellable and shear-thinning with rapid viscosity recovery. It is ideal for use in applications as a thickener in creams, lotions, and cream shampoos.

Up to now our starches were mainly used as a granular powder as absorbent, mattifying agent and feel enhancer. A completely new concept is to use starches as thickeners in surfactant systems like liquid shampoos and conditioners. Ideal thickeners are chemically modified starches with INCI (Sodium) Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate. They are produced from renewable raw materials but are neither Organic (“Bio”) nor are they suitable for COSMOS. Since shampoos & body washes are fully released into the sewage system it is, in our opinion, a definite advantage that they are completely biodegradable and food-compliant.

 

AGRANA developed 2 new starches also for SLS-free surfactant systems: AGENAJEL 20.383 is a cook-up starch. It has to be heated up (gelatinized) in an aqueous phase (water) for thickening effect – but it has a lower gelatinization temperature (~ 60°C) than native starches (~ 80°C). AGENAJEL 20.313 is a cold water swellable starch. It can be used in cold processed applications for thickening and is comparable to bench-mark STRUCTURE XL from Akzo Nobel which is also cold water swellable.

Consequently, we are confident that our grades will definitely find their place in the market.

ANTIL® 200 MB is a highly efficient, liquid thickening agent for shampoos, shower, and bath preparations.  A pleasant refatting effect can be achieved by using ANTIL® 200 MB. Cosmetic formulations, which are thickened by ANTIL® 200 MB, show a nearly ideal viscous rheology. Whereas in comparison systems thickened with Cocamide DEA, Laureth-3 or NaCl, exhibit a strong shear thinning flow behaviour. While this product is a surface active agent, it is a good solubilizer for perfumes or ester oils, too. High levels of perfume or ester oils may be solubilized without turbidity.

Due to the solubility/dispersibility in water, this product can be added at any phase of the production process, even into the final formulation as long as the surfactant solids are greater than 5 %. Due to the low viscosity and good solubility of ANTIL® 200, specialized process equipment is not necessary.

ANTIL® 200 is processable at room temperature. Its viscosity makes it feasible for use in continuous production. If it shows partial crystallization due to low storage temperatures, heat to approximately 40 °C and mix until uniform before using.

Biochemica Almond Butter is derived from sweet almonds ( Prunus amygdalus dulcis ), specifically from the Mediterranean area, and is obtained by cold pressing of selected fruit seeds followed by a full refining process. The natural oil contains essential fatty acids, but also contains unsaponifiables as natural waxes/paraffins, which are collected during the refining and deodorization process. The butter is created by blending the almond oil with hydrogenated vegetable oils to produce a soft, light-colored butter with a mild odor and excellent melting properties suitable for skin care. In cosmetic preparations, the feel and behavior of Biochemica Almond Butter is somewhat similar to that of Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter.

Biochemica Almond Butter exhibits excellent spreadability on the skin, making it ideal as a massage butter or carrier for treatment products. It adds moisturizing attributes to creams, lotions and bar soaps. It may find use in cosmetics, toiletries, soaps, massage oils & balms, hair care and sun care preparations. Suggested use levels in balms: 5 – 100%, bar soaps: 3 – 6%, lotions & creams: 3 – 5% and hair conditioners: 2 – 5%.

Biochemica Cocoa Butter Deodorized is obtained from the fruit of the cacao tree ( Theobroma cacao ), which grows in tropical regions throughout the world. The butter is extracted from the seed kernels and is further refined and deodorized to yield a tan colored butter with very light odor, making it ideally suited for use in cosmetics and toiletries where the full odor of unrefined cocoa butter is undesired. It is a relatively hard butter with a steep melting curve, ideal for body care products.

Clinical testing demonstrated that this product is effective for skin moisturization enhancement and transepidermal water loss reduction, and can improve skin elasticity long after application. The recommended use level is application dependent and is between 2 and 100%: balms: 5-100%; bar soaps: 3 – 6%; skin care lotions and creams: 3 – 5%; hair conditioners: 2 – 5%.

Biochemica Hemp Oil Refined Organic is a highly refined low color oil obtained from the seed of hemp, Cannabis sativa , by cold expeller press method.
