Biochemica Olive Butter begins with cold pressing of selected fruits of olive ( Olea europaea ) trees from the Mediterranean area. The oil derived thereby then goes through a full refining process. The natural oil contains essential fatty acids, but also contains unsaponifiables as natural waxes which are collected during the refining and deodorization process and from the squalane production process.

In cosmetic preparations, the feel and behavior of Biochemica Olive Butter are very similar to those of Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, with slightly higher melting characteristics. It exhibits excellent spreadability on the skin, making it ideal as a massage butter or carrier for treatment products. Further, it adds moisturizing attributes to creams, lotions and bar soaps. Suggested use levels are: balms: 5 – 10%; bar soaps: 2 – 6%; hair conditioners: 3 – 5%; and lotions and creams: 2 – 5%.

The babassu palm is a native Brazilian tree which may grow to a height of 20 meters. The name “babassu” comes from the Tupis, an Amazonian tribe, whereas its genus name Orbignya comes from the French paleontologist A. D. d’Orbigny who first described the palm in the early 1800’s in South America. The fruit of the babassu palm forms several clusters that bear 500 or so fruits that look like small coconuts. Its principal product is a clear, stable oil that may be used in cosmetics and toiletries after refinement.

Biochemica® Babassu Oil Ultra Refined becomes a soft solid at temperatures below 24° C but melts readily upon contact with the skin. It is a very fast penetrating oil that may be used in creams, lotions, balms, and lipsticks, bar soaps or any anhydrous formulation. Suggested use levels are balms: 3 – 10%, lotions & creams: 3 – 5%, hair conditioners: 3 – 5% and bar soaps: 2 – 7%.

The mango tree (Mangifera indica) grows in the sub-tropics of India and other parts of the globe. From its seed a firm “butter” is rendered, suitable for soaps, cosmetics, toiletries, and pharmaceuticals. Mango butter exhibits excellent moisturizing properties and good lubricity. It melts readily at skin temperature, making it ideal for sticks, balms and suppositories. It also counters the drying effects of bar soaps and cleansers.

This product has been extracted from the fruit kernels of the mango tree. This butter is carefully refined and deodorized to obtain a product which meets the stringent requirements for cosmetic applications. It contains a high content of C18:0 and C18:1 fatty acid moieties and so melts on contact with skin and disperses evenly.

Biochemica® Mango Butter Ultra may be used for cutaneous dryness to assist in moisturization after exposure to sun and other harsh elements. Indeed, clinical testing indicates superior performance in ‘extra moisturizing’ formulae for very dry skin. Suggested applications include balms, creams and lotions, and recommended use levels are: balms: 5-100%; bar soaps: 3-6%; lotions and creams: 3-5%; and hair conditioners: 2-5%.
